Out & About

Although there's plenty to do on site there's also a myriad of places reachable by either bus or train that are perfect for day trips and short journeys.

Here is a short list of the things you can do around the site and the wider county, for more information on each one you can click the relevant header for more information.

Places to explore

Dawlish Warren - Right outside your door, a beautiful town with amusements galore, a golden beach and a protected nature reserve. (walk)

Dawlish - Just a quick walk along the sea wall or on the long beach gets you to Dawlish, a thriving seaside town with it's famous black swans on the "lawn", a river running through the town surrounded by parkland. (walk/car/bus/train)

Teignmouth - The next stop along the route going south is Teignmouth, another coastal town with a special feature all of its own, a classic pier with amusements, rides and places to eat and drink. (car/bus/train)

Exeter - The county capital and second largest city. With an imposing cathedral on the skyline, a quay, underground passages and a huge high street filled with well known national chains and smaller local businesses Exeter can take more than a day to explore. (car/bus/train)

Torquay - One of the most famous places in Devon, and a holidaymakers staple for many years. Torquay makes up the 'business end' of the English Riviera along with Paignton and Brixham.

Plymouth - Devon's largest city and home to some recognisable landmarks such as Smeaton's Tower, sat on the very Hoe that Francis Drake is alleged to have played bowls on before the Spanish Armada... not to mention the home of Plymouth Gin.

The Exe Estuary (external site) - A look at all the area surrounding the Exe Estuary, one corner of which is situated at Dawlish Warren.

 

Attractions to visit

Powderham Castle - Just down the road from the chalet is the beautiful stately home set inside deer filled grounds and sited next to the River Exe.

Crealy Adventure Park - An adventure park for the whole family with 9 rides and over 200 animals spread across 6 different "realms".

Pecorama - Award winning and popular, the Pecorama small gauge railway is a mile-long and takes you through amazing gardens and wonderful scenery.

Woodlands Leisure Park - Something for everyone at this adventure park with rides to suit the adrenaline junkie to the mildest mannered among us, including play zones and animal areas for all the family.

Paignton Zoo - Widely acknowedged as one of the best zoos in the country, Paignton Zoo has extensive grounds covering all the different areas of the world from the desert to the rain forest.

Living Coasts - A partner site to Paignton Zoo this is a cliffside walk through the world of the sea and it's wildlife. From its iconic families of penguins to more exotic bird life and seals this area has it all.

Quaywest - One of Britain's best waterparks with a multitude of splash filled rides and pools, not to mention the nearby Goodrington Beach for a quick break on the sand.

Miniature Pony and Animal Farm - Animals, activities and discovery, all set in 20 acres of beautiful parkland within Dartmoor National Park. The unique minature ponies, outdoor play areas and a daily birds of prey show complete a filled day out.

Kents Cavern - Going underground... The historic site of the oldest recognisable human living space in the whole UK. Palaeolithic caves that suck you into a world of the stone age.

Babbacombe Model Village - Feel like Gulliver as you explore the world in miniture with exquisitly detailed models and, if visiting after dark, extensive light shows.
